Split figure-8 SE.97 m₃ = 0.97 is a periodic orbit of the planar three-body problem: three masses in the ratio 1 : 1 : 0.97 that return to their starting positions and velocities every 6.2832 time units, published by Titov (2012). Titov’s continuations of the figure-eight to a lighter third body, where the curve splits into two lobes. It is weakly unstable (largest Floquet multiplier 3.267), so a small nudge makes it unravel over a few periods. The bodies pass within 0.513 of each other at a top speed of 1.39, line up 6 times a period, and the computed loop closes to 2.6×10⁻²⁶.
